How To Apply For The PMP Certification Exam?
1. Fulfill The Eligibility Requirement
The PMI defines eligibility criteria for the PMP certifications to its aspirants. It requires you to meet the experience of a certain level, education and training contact hours before you apply. You need to have experience in certain domains and fulfill the desired education required for the certification.
So, it’s better to gather all this information before you apply.
2. Complete The PMP Application
PMI offers both online and offline medium to fill the application. You can submit the application in your preferable mode. Online mode is instantaneous. In offline mode, you have to send your application through courier.

Go to PMI’s website and under the certification section click on Apply now. Fill your credentials for login.
The information which is required for the application is your personal details, education, experience (project management experience), 35 contact hours.
The online application once started cannot be canceled. You can save it for later and edit it. The saved details can be edited and some new information can be added which is required.
Apply for the respective exam. And fill your details as shown in the screenshot below.
Once you start filling your application PMI gives you 90 days to complete it. In the meanwhile, you will receive notification from PMI that lets you know about the status of your application.
Always check your email address. It should be correct and valid as the primary mode of communication for PMI. Every update you get through your email. Check the information thoroughly before hitting the submit button.
Tip: If you want to complete your application quickly and want to avoid multiple sessions to complete the application. Gather all the information and document you need at the time of filling your details.
3. Application Review
Once you complete your application PMI will review it. Typically the process takes about 5-10 days. Once the application is reviewed, PMI will notify you.
If they have any query they will send you an email with further instructions. Among so many applications a number of applications are randomly selected for the audit process. The main purpose of the audit process is to check or confirm the credibility of your education and experience.
In the audit process, PMI will ask for copies of your experience, education, training, etc. you can send them through the mail. They will review your documents and let you know through mail.
Tip: PMI may take 5-10 days to approve your application and may perform a random audit with your details.
After your application is approved PMI will send you a confirmation email and will ask you to make the payment. So that you can move to the last step.
For completing your payment you have to go to your online application and select your mode of examination and then accordingly you have to pay your fee. If you are a PMI member you will be benefited while making the payment. The rate of payment varies depending on whether you are a PMI member or not.
If you are a member of PMI then you have to pay $405. A non-member has to pay $555.
Once your payment is done PMI will provide you an eligibility number. This eligibility number lasts for one year. It means you are eligible to give the exam for one year and you can give the exam three times in your eligibility period.
5. Schedule The Exam
After you complete all the steps. You can schedule your exam using your eligibility ID provided by the PMI. Schedule your exam online at prometric website.
In case you lost your email that consists of your PMI Eligibility ID you can find the same on PMI website under myPMI section. Follow the on-screen instruction to book your examination slot. On the site, you will be able to search for an exam center with seats available based on your preferred time. After you confirm your booking you will receive a confirmation email.
The confirmation email consists of a 16 digit confirmation number, it is advisable to keep this number at a safe place. This will require when in case you need to talk to the customer care of Prometric for any query related to the exam arrangement.
Or it is also said that you should bring a copy of it with you on the examination center for safer side. Just in case of any problem you can make a call to the Prometric customer care and they will help you out in any way.
Tip: It is advised to book your slot 5-6 weeks in advance.
The PMP application process is complex but it is very straightforward. While filling your details make sure that you have every detail with you. Your information should be exact and true.
